FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne joined 45 other cities around the world to celebrate the third annual Global Vegan Waffle Party Sunday.
The local celebration took place at the Loving Café, at 7605 Coldwater Road from 10:00am until noon.
Breakfast lovers got free samples of waffles, a breakfast scramble, and breakfast drinks, all with the idea that no animals were hurt in the creation of the meal.
"We have all different types of people out here today. We have vegans, we have vegetarians, we have people that are just health conscious, we have people who just wanted a free breakfast and wanted to find out about healthier options," said Heather Dahman, Fort Wayne Vegan Waffle Party organizer.
The annual event started in Pittsburgh, PA by a group of people who love both waffles and animals, and so began creating vegan waffles that taste great, but are entirely free of animal products, including eggs.
According to Loving Cafe owner, George Lee, the Global Vegan Waffle Party helps make vegan food more accessible to everyone. "This is an easy way for us to show how we can make something everyone loves, like waffles, and do it in a way that's better for your health, the animals and our planet."
Other events for Sunday included two healthy cooking demonstrations, two yoga mini-session by Lotus Yoga and Wellness, free massages, raffles and a bake sale.
