VA hospital starting some services back up after "pause"

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - After Fort Wayne's VA hospital temporarily closed the ICU and the Acute Medical Unit in October, hospital officials announced that the hospital will re-open some of the services that were suspended.

The VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System issued this statement on Monday:

We are pleased to announce that our phased restart is underway. On Monday, December 3, 2012, VANIHCS, Fort Wayne campus re-opened the Acute Care Unit (ACU). The ACU will begin with chemotherapeutic infusions with integration of greater complex patients as our phased re-start continues. We are committed to ensuring that all Northern Indiana Veterans receive the highest quality of care they earned and deserve.

The temporary pause afforded on-site staff the opportunity to review, evaluate and implement inpatient policies and Veteran Health Administration’s systems for providing care and services on the ACU. VANIHCS staff has received support and training to ensure our continued ability to maintain high quality care and services for the Veterans we are honored to serve. Additional re-openings will be announced as planning for the phased restart continues.
