Two people are being credited with saving a woman’s life after a crash in Noble County early Wednesday morning.
The accident took place just after 5:00 a.m. on County Road 900 North in Ligonier. According to police, an SUV with three people inside was passing another vehicle, lost control, and hit a tree.
After the SUV hit the tree, it burst into flames. Nearby homeowner Mike Weimer and passerby Tony Miller came to the rescue of Tiffany Miller, 26, who was still inside the vehicle. While Weimer was battling the fire with a fire extinguisher, Tony Miller used a hammer to break out one of the windows to pull Tiffany Miller out of the vehicle. Weimer, Tony Miller, and one of the men in the accident were able to rescue her just moments before the vehicle exploded.
"If that innocent bystander hadn't stopped with the hammer, I'm not sure we could have gotten her out," Weimer said.
The driver, Troy Bollenbacher, 27, was taken to Parkview Noble with body pain. Robert Johnson, 26, was also taken to Parkview Noble with neck pain.
Tiffany Miller was flown to Parkview Main in Fort Wayne with body pain. She was last listed in critical condition. Police are looking into reports that Miller was pregnant.
