COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) - Most children celebrate their 12th birthday as their last year before becoming a teenager. However, for Koby Watkins, his 12th birthday was a celebration in itself because he turned 12 on 12-12-12.

His mother, Jamie Carlson, said it's neat having a child with such a unique birthday.

"I was not aware that he'd be 12, on 12-12-12," Carlson said. "The excitement of having a new baby, I wasn't thinking ahead."

It's the last time of the century when the month, day, and year, all match. And, it happens to be Koby Watkins' Golden Birthday.

"Everybody is just like it's amazing because it's not going to happen for another hundred years," Carlson said.

However, Koby isn't really joining in on the hoopla of the day. Other than going to church, he plans to take it easy.

"Just sit at home and read and relax," Watkins said.

He did take time to enjoy some of his favorite past times, like playing video games with his brother and reading his new Bible he got for his birthday.

His mother said Koby was just a few minutes away from having an extremely unique birthday.

"He was born at 12:17 in the morning," Carlson said. "He missed it. If he had been born at 12:12, he would have been 12-12-12-12-12."

However, he is already making plans for the next 12 years of his life and after.

"I want to travel the world and be a missionary," Watkins said.

Staff at Lutheran and Parkview hospitals said they hadn't really seen any increase in induced births Wednesday; however, the Allen Circuit Court said it had 13 marriages on the schedule for Wednesday which is much higher than normal.
