SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - Three Indiana State troopers saved a Churubusco man's life on Saturday during a Notre Dame football game.
Troopers Brian McCall, Gary Runde, and Ryan Purkiser were on foot patrol at the game when they decided to go into the Hammes bookstore on campus to get out of the rain.
Police said at around 2:30 p.m., a bystander told the troopers that a male was on the floor in the bookstore and not breathing.
The man did not have a pulse when the troopers began to do CPR on him. The Notre Dame Fire Department and South Bend Fire Department arrived shortly after to relieve the officers and tend to the man.
Patrick Carpenter, 47, of Churubusco, was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. As of Thursday, Carpenter was listed in serious condition.
