FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Fort Wayne Fire Department had to rescue a Fort Wayne water pollution control worker who became trapped while he was deep down a manhole Wednesday.
Around 12:15 p.m., the fire department and its specialty operations rescue team were called to a
possible confined space rescue at 2701 Dwenger Avenue.
Initial reports indicated the pollution control worker might have become trapped while doing routine maintenance in a manhole.
Upon arrival, crews determined the worker and his equipment had become wedged and that he was unable to self-evacuate from approximately 20 feet down.
FWFD's SORT team did assist and lifted the man from the space. No injuries were reported and no
medical assistance was needed.
