Run raises over $30,000 for Fort Wayne Trails

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The first annual Trail Blazer 5K and 10K fundraising race was held on Sunday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Summit Middle School.

The race raised money for the Fort Wayne Trails , a nonprofit organization promoting the use and expansion of Allen County's trail network.

The fundraising race was a part of Fort Wayne Trails' Countdown to Connectivity program, in which $5 million in grant funding is waiting to be unlocked. However, to unlock these funds, Fort Wayne Trails must raise $1 million by December of 2013; therefore every $1 given to or raised by Fort Wayne Trails becomes $6.

Lori Keys, Executive Director of the Fort Wayne Trails, said there are 68 miles of trails throughout Allen County, but only 50 miles of them are connected. By raising money, Keys hopes to connect all of the trails together so people can enjoy a safe way to walk, run, or bike.

This year's run raised more than $30,000.
