FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A TRAA ambulance was hit by a car while it was responding to a 911 call Friday night.
Three Rivers Ambulance Authority officials said the ambulance was going through an intersection when it was hit by a car. Michael Manz, a field supervisor for TRAA, said they believe the driver of the car had been drinking.
Both crew members on the TRAA ambulance had minor injuries. The condition of the other driver isn't known.
"We had the resources to respond to the initial 911 call that this truck was responding to. We had the resources to respond to the accident that was created by this accident, but that person that called 911 got a delay because somebody made a poor choice," Manz said.
The ambulance hit is believed to be totaled. This ambulance had the same fleet number as the ambulance `that was shot up last September.
In Indianapolis early Saturday morning, a car hit an ambulance, killing one EMT inside. The other EMT is in critical condition. IEMS officials said the ambulance was not on an emergency run and had the right of way in the intersection where it was hit.
