TinCaps to give away $5,000 on Opening Night

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The TinCaps will be giving away a $5,000 cash prize on Opening Night, Thursday, April 11, to celebrate the start of their fifth season.

“We kept thinking of clever things to give away or do and then we decided that what people like best is cash, so that’s what we decided to give away," TinCaps President, Mike Nutter, said.

All fans in attendance will be eligible to win the prize. As each person enters the ballpark, they will receive a scratch off card as part of the qualification process. Certain cards will be designated as instant winners. Those winners will receive a TinCaps game-worn red jersey, which the team will be wearing on Opening Night.

Once these select fans are determined, the final $5,000 winner will be selected from among the jersey winners. The winner of the grand prize will be announced during the game.

The TinCaps scavenger hunt to pre-qualify for the $5,000 prize begins Monday, March 4. The scavenger hunt gives fans an opportunity to win TinCaps-themed prizes, including tickets to the first game of the season at Parkview Field.

"The best part about this give away is that there will be waves of prizes before we get to the cash, so a lot of people will walk away happy," Nutter, said.

Beginning Monday, the TinCaps will be using their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts to launch the scavenger hunt. Clues will be given out each day during the week, directing fans to a specific location within the Fort Wayne city limits where they will find a large wall decal, featuring a picture of Johnny TinCap holding bags of money. When fans find that decal, they must take a picture of themselves with Johnny and submit it to the TinCaps.

People can then post the picture using a variety of different platforms. You can post the picture on the TinCaps’ Facebook page , tweet the photo to the TinCaps at @TinCaps , or post the picture using the hashtag #TinCaps to Instagram. You can also email the photo to Johnny@TinCaps.com.

Each week for five weeks, one winner will be randomly selected from among all submissions. These five winners will automatically advance to the jersey-winning stage of the $5,000 giveaway contest. Also, each weekly winner is guaranteed two tickets to Opening Day and a red TinCaps jersey.
