FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) UPDATE: As of Friday, Nov. 16, The Franciscan Center in Fort Wayne needs 250 more turkeys in order to feed the number of people they expect line up for its annual "Turkey Tuesday."

-----------

The Franciscan Center in Fort Wayne is getting ready for its annual "Turkey Tuesday."

"Turkey Tuesday" is held on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, which is Nov. 20, 2012. The Franciscan center announced on Thursday it expects to serve 1,500 or more people on that day.

"Our largest usage day for our Food Pantry is always the Tuesday before Thanksgiving,” explains Tony Ley, executive director of The Franciscan Center, “while we may average 450 families a week during the year, based upon experience we fully expect to more than triple that number on one day. Men, women and children will line up around the building at 4:30 a.m. even though we do not open the Pantry doors until 9 a.m.”

The Franciscan Center is completely reliant on donations to provide the turkey and hams it gives out to clients.

Donations of turkeys, hams, or money are accepted up until Turkey Tuesday on November 20. Donors can contact the Franciscan Center to arrange drop off or pick up of donations, Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Donors can also write a check, or make a donation online earmarked for "Turkey Tuesday ”.

The Center also encourages businesses, service groups, and classrooms to consider a “Turkey Drive” in their neighborhood.

Those interested in donating or in more information can check out the Franciscan Center web site and the Franciscan Center Facebook page.

The Franciscan Center runs a Food Pantry, Medicine Cabinet and Sack Lunch Ministry with over 72,000 client connections on an annual basis. Please contact The Franciscan Center at 744-3977 for more information, or visit our website to make an online donation at www.thefranciscancenter.org .
