Summer Cooling Assistance still available

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Summer Cooling Assistance is still available to low-income families in Northeast Indiana.

CANI (Community Action of Northeast Indiana) runs the cooling assistance program from June 4th until August 31st. The programs gives families who were approved for the heating assistance program $150 dollar credit to go towards their electric bill.

Those who did not receive heating assistance since Oct. 3, 2011 may also apply for the assistance programs.

To apply, call CANI at (260)423-3546 or (800)589-226. You can also call 211 or stop by any Family Support office.

The maximum yearly income allowed under the program is:

  • One-person household – No more than $16,335 annually.
  • Two-person household – No more than $22,065 annually.
  • Three-person household – No more than $27,795 annually.
  • Four-person household – No more than $33, 525 annually.
  • Add $5,730 for each additional family member .

This is not emergency program. CANI does not call in benefits and the program cannot be used for disconnects.
