FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Area college students are doing some class work while raising awareness on the dangers of texting and driving. Students from a marketing class at Manchester College organized a 5K run.
It took place today at Fox Island County Park Saturday morning. The day gave students an idea of what it takes to organize an event. But they also used it as a way to teach others how dangerous it is to text and drive.
"Pretty much all of us at this point in time have cellular devices and when we're on the road we can help who texts us but we can help whether or not we chose to respond. So recognizing the fact that it was such a serious cause, we decided we wanted to get involved to do our part to help as well," Nathan Gage, who is on the sponsorship committee, said.
Proceeds from the event will go to Parkview's "Don't Text and Drive" campaign.
