FORT WAYNE, Ind, (WANE) - Science Central hosted a unique Three Rivers Festival event called Catapult Chaos Wednesday.

High school students from New Tech Academy built their own giant catapult to launch bags of flour and cantaloupes into the air attempting to hit a pole 150 feet away.

Onlookers couldn't get enough of seeing those objects fly through the air.

"Anytime you can make physics fun and breathtaking, when you watch that cantaloupe fly across the air, it's science at its best," said Science Central's Shane Pickett.

"I think it's great. It's one thing to go in the classroom and teach them the basics. That's what I do. I teach physics," said Rex Joyner, a physics professor at Indiana Tech . "But it's great for them to get out here and get hands-on and actually build something and see the principles in action."

As part of the festival , admission to Science Central was only 95 cents Wednesday and the facility stayed open until 9 p.m.
