FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - If you were shopping at Glenbrook Square Mall on Saturday, you may have thought you were in a galaxy far, far away.

Five members from the 501st Legion were dressed in Star Wars costumes to raise money for Fort Wayne's Salvation Army.

"We love Star Wars," Mark Ryner, a member of the Indiana Bloodfin Garrison chapter of the 501st Legion, said.

Ryner explained that the Star Wars costumes are professional quality and must be approved before members can wear them in public.

The organization was formed specifically for Star Wars fans, but the 501st also uses its resources to do fundraising, charity work, and volunteerism.

Ryner said the group raised around $300 for the Salvation Army last year and hopes to raise even more this year.

The 501st has raised money for organizations such as The American Cancer Society, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Red Cross, Relay for Life, Toys for Tots, and many more.

The Bloodfin Garrison Chapter was founded in 2002 and there are over 70 members in Indiana.
