FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The St. Baldrick's Foundation Shave-off at the Lutheran Cancer Center Sunday raised money and awareness for childhood cancer research through St. Baldrick's Foundation.
Amy Truong, the event organizer and medical student, shaved off her long hair in honor of all children who experience childhood cancer.
"It's important to understand what's going on and to show the kids, who I can't imagine being that young and being that sick and losing your hair. I just wanted to show them that I support them and am willing to fight for them. As a physician I hope that I can be really empathetic and show them that I care," Truong said.
Instead of shaving their heads, some people simply cut their locks to donate for making wigs.
