NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) - A New Haven High School special education teacher was surprised by STAR 88.3 on-air personalities Monday morning at school.

Elizabeth Bixby was nominated for the radio station's "Share the Love" contest. She lost her son and husband within the last seven years. Bixby now works to encourage other people who have experienced tragedies in their lives.

STAR 88.3's "Share the Love" campaign surprises selected winners with chocolates, gift cards and other goodies to provide people with hope and encouragement.

Pati Teeple, the friend who nominated Bixby, said she is "an incredible model and example."

"If it were not for the knowledge that there's a better life beyond here, I would probably fall apart at the seems. Just knowing that God is watching and wants us to do our best and to try to turn ashes into gold, that's my goal in life," Bixby said.

"Share the Love" is taking place throughout the month of February.
