FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Trinity English Lutheran Church hosted its seventh annual "Souper" Bowl of Caring luncheon on Sunday afternoon.
The event is part of the national Souper Bowl of Caring , which in 2012, raised more than $9.8 million to help tackle hunger in America.
Pastor Dan Fugate, of Trinity English Lutheran Church, said the church served 100 to 125 people Sunday afternoon. They also provided food for around 100 people at the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.
Fugate said the youth of the church prepared and served the food for the event.
"We had around 90 middle and high school students who helped out with the event this year," Fugate said.
Canned goods were also collected for Wellspring Interfaith Social Services in Fort Wayne. Last year, the church's youth group raised more than $1,400 and more than 200 nonperishable canned items. Fugate said the church is hoping to raise even more this year.
