FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Showgirl One owner James A. Butler has been charged with a criminal misdemeanor of battery.
In November 2011, a waitress filed a police report with the Fort Wayne Police Department accusing Butler of sexually harassing her in the workplace. The case was sent to the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, both hoping to resolve the issue without going to court.
This week, a family member of the victim has been the key person in bringing charges against Butler, but he said the current charge isn't enough.
"This is a sexual crime, and he's only being charged with just battery. That's not going to cut it," said the family member.
The family member is keeping his identity withheld to protect the victim. The family member wants him to be charged with a felony sexual battery charge.
"If we can't resolve this with the prosecutor, then we might have to go to the court of appeals. And I guess after we exhaust that, then we'll go to the Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission," he said.
We've been trying to reach Butler to get his side since we reported this story. NewsChannel 15 decided to see if he was at Showgirl One to find out if he was aware of the warrant. We were told he wasn't there.
We have discovered that Butler is currently serving probation for a felony battery charge in Florida.
