FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  A young woman who's still recovering after a former boyfriend shot her in the face gave a powerful speech Thursday at the annual Circle of Women luncheon at the Mariott on Coldwater Road.

Johanna Orozco was a teenager when her boyfriend sexually assaulted her and then shot her in the face with a sawed-off shotgun. She now shares her story with advocacy groups and on shows like 20/20, Oprah, and The View. She's also helped pass a law in Ohio that protects victims of teen violence.

Orozco has endured several surgeries and will likely need more, but said she's at a good point in her life right now.

"I'm very confident now. I've never felt so beautiful in my life, ever. And I'm just very blessed to be able to see the progress that I have made throughout the whole six years now. I mean, it's been dramatic changes," Orozco said.

Her former boyfriend is spending more than 20 years in prison for the shooting.
