FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Just days away from the November election, what is the state of America? NewsChannel 15 asked that question one year ago in our series, "Saving America: 28 Ideas in 28 Days."
In the month-long series, people from all sectors of society weighed in on their thoughts on the state of our nation. In the next week, NewsChannel 15 will revisit six of those interviews.
Rev. Donovan Coley, the CEO of the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission, starts the series, "Saving America: What Now?" Coley came to Fort Wayne from Jamaica in 1982 to attend the Fort Wayne Bible College.
A year ago, he told NewsChannel 15's Alyssa Ivanson that America was full of excesses when he came to the country and he thinks that lifestyle caught up with the country. He also said, in some ways, the United States resembled a third world nation.

Now, a year later, Coley said he sees some economic improvements in the way of donors contributing more to the Mission, but said new people are still joining the food lines every day.
He said the first issue the next president needs to tackle is creating jobs, but restoring the country's morality is a close second.

Monday at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., Heather Herron continues "Saving America: What Now?" as she sits down with the same Fort Wayne family of four we heard from last year.
