FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Samaritan's Feet's Back to Basics program distributed free athletic shoes and socks for around 1,000 children from Fort Wayne Community Schools on Friday.

Performance Services sponsored the event at North Side High School and The Office Depot Foundation donated sackpacks containing basic school supplies for each child.

Volunteers also washed the children's feet before they were given a new pair of shoes.

"Serving those in need throughout the Fort Wayne community is a great opportunity to bring hope and encouragement to those who are struggling financially. We are profoundly grateful for the dedicated volunteers who donate their time and energy to give back to those in need," Manny Ohonme , founder of Samaritan's Feet, said.

Through the Back to Basics distributions, around 41,000 children will have received new shoes, socks, and sackpacks with school supplies this fall.
