FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Police have a suspect in custody after a small fire was discovered in a patient's room at Park Center on Carew Street in Fort Wayne.

Fire dispatchers received a call of a fire on the second floor of Park Center , located at 1909 Carew Street in Fort Wayne behind Parkview Hospital, just before midnight Thursday.

Initial reports indicated a room was on fire and a resident had barricaded himself inside the room. When the first fire crews arrived, the man had exited the room. Fire crews said the building sprinkler system extinguished the fire and prevented any further damage to the structure.

Fort Wayne police took the resident into custody, but he did not admit to starting the fire. Fire investigators have not ruled the fire as arson.

Park Center is a private, non-profit mental health hospital serving children and adults for a wide range of medical issues. The company's website said it has served northern Indiana for over 60 years.

About 15 residents were evacuated from the building. No one was hurt.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Fire Department and Fort Wayne Police Department.
