FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — New details of IPFW RiverFest 2012 were revealed at a news conference Friday morning along the banks of the St. Joseph River on the Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne campus, including the subject of a sculpture made from river debris by an IPFW instructor.
The sculpture, created by Fort Wayne artist and IPFW art instructor Sayaka Ganz, is an abstract representation of river waves.
Each of Ganz’s sculptures is made up of hundreds of pieces of objects that have been used and thrown away. Some of the pieces in this new sculpture are from the St. Joseph River, others were donated from Omnisource.
The sculpture, which is located near the Venderly Family Bridge during RiverFest, will have a permanent home near the art building on the IPFW campus.
Officials also revealed that a beach party, featuring tons of sand, games, water events and sand volleyball has been added to the festivities.
IPFW RiverFest takes place on the IPFW campus Saturday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
