Residents dig their way out of overnight snow storm

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - People across the region had an extra task before they could leave home Wednesday morning:  Digging out.

The snow from Tuesday night and Wednesday morning dumped as much as much as 10 inches of snow in some areas.  The majority of the people who spoke with NewsChannel 15 said it took them more than an hour to get the driveway and their vehicles cleared.

For many, the family snow blower did not get the job done.

"The snow blower's not working that well," said Abigail Creigh, who took a break about 45 minutes after shoveling to talk with a NewsChannel 15 crew.  "I decided to get my workout this way."

For others, a shovel was the only option.

"The snow seems really, really damp," said Ivan Alcantara, who was back in Fort Wayne after spending a few years living in Florida.

It wasn't just the amount of snow that surprised people.  Some didn't think the area could get hit this hard because February had already passed.

"It was a little surprising for March," said Laura Hester.  "Usually we're looking forward to our spring weather it's a surprise but we'll get through it.  It's always exciting to see a little snow every now and then."

"According to what was predicted, what Jonathan [Conder] predicted, we got it," said Debbie Woodroof.  "I would have preferred to have a little bit less."
