Religion rally rejects Obama's health care law

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Dozens of people was taking a stand against President Obama’s Affordable Care Act in Fort Wayne Saturday morning at the Allen County Courthouse.

People were rallying against the mandate because many feel this law conflicts with their religious beliefs, especially Catholics. Under the bill, women are able to receive free contraceptive from their health insurance. For Thomas McGovern, this is unethical and against his beliefs.

“As a business owner, I'm being forced to provide something for my employee's health insurance that I consider morally objectionable for my own conscience,” he said.

Obama’s administration came up with a compromise, but Catholics said it’s not. The compromise was to give the Diocese and House of worship members a year before complying with the new law after it goes into effect in 2014. One protester of the event says this has nothing to do with religion.

“This is man's doing. This is man's way of controlling other men. They don't understand. These people out here, they think this is a political aspect and everything, it goes much deeper a lot deeper than that,” said the protester.

Congressman Marlin Stutzman was the keynote speaker at Saturday’s event and said this rally was about getting people informed about how Obama’s health care law is infringing on people’s First Amendment rights.

“We have opportunities to worship how we choose, we have opportunity to live our lives how we choose,” he said.
