FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  With a total of 819 pet adoptions, the Allen County SPCA found homes for 348 more cats and dogs in 2012 than in 2011.

“This is a remarkable accomplishment for the shelter,” said director Jessica Henry. “This success is a result of the great partnerships we have in place, and we are particularly grateful to the national ASPCA for a grant we received to cover the cost of transferring felines from area open-admission shelters such as Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control. With the ASPCA’s help, we were able to bring in 105 at-risk cats, have them spayed or neutered, tested, vaccinated and prepared for adoption.”

The Allen County SPCA was founded in 1950 and its mission is to promote the prevention of cruelty to animals by providing a safe haven for animals, an effective and comprehensive adoption program, education and outreach programs for the community and deep and broad membership and volunteer programs.
