FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - As Indiana Michigan Power continues work to restore power to 74,000 customers , the company decided to hand out bags of ice to help citizens cope with the conditions.
Ice was available Sunday afternoon free of charge at 1130 Coliseum Boulevard in Fort Wayne in the parking lot of the former Value City clothing store. That is near the intersection of Coliseum and Lake.
The company handed out two bags of ice per household.
“We appreciate our customers’ patience during the lengthy restoration process that we are engaged in and I&M trusts that citizens will be able to sue this ice to preserve food or medications that need to stay cool,” Kim Sabrosky, community relations manager for Indiana Michigan Power said.
I&M officials said the supply of ice they had went really fast because so many people came out to get the free bags.
Company officials said they might hand out free ice again one day this week, but it hasn't been officially set up yet.
