STATEHOUSE (WANE) - Churubusco has qualified for a grant of almost $1.3 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Rep. Matt Bell (R-Avilla) said Thursday. The grant will be used to begin improvements on Churubusco’s drinking water system. This is one of Indiana’s first stimulus water projects to be announced.
“Churubusco is a beneficiary on more than one level,” said Rep. Bell. “It improves the city’s drinking water system, and it will put people to work. This investment in infrastructure will not only serve current residents by improving water quality, but it also should help prepare Churubusco for future economic development.
“This is how stimulus money should be used — quickly creating jobs that employ Hoosiers and improving our local infrastructure.”
The recovery act will distribute approximately $125 million to the Indiana State Revolving Fund, an existing program managed by the Indiana Finance Authority that makes loans to communities for wastewater and drinking water projects.
