FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Antonio L. Hamlet, 34, of Fort Wayne, was shot on Saturday evening and taken to the hospital in critical condition. According to police, his condition appeared to be improving as of Monday morning.

Police responded to Fairfax Avenue and Standish Drive around 8:30 p.m.

Officials said Hamlet was walking down the road when a car pulled up. That's when someone got out, shot at Hamlet, then left the scene.

Police have been talking with witnesses to try to figure out what happened.

"If there were witnesses that were in the area of the incident, it's always a good sign," said Jeremy Webb with the Fort Wayne Police Department. "Whether they saw the entire event occur is one thing, but to have them there and to see or hear any information you can get from them is a good sign."

Police said the suspect vehicle is a silver passenger car.

Anyone with information about this shooting should call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 260-427-1222.
