FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A man was taken into police custody Sunday after barricading himself in a Fort Wayne motel room for approximately two hours.
Just before 11:00 p.m. Saturday, Fort Wayne police received reports than an armed man was making threats to shoot someone outside the Travelers Inn at 4606 E. Washington Blvd.
When officers arrived, the suspect identified as Andrew Monhollen, 28, entered a motel room which he refused to exit.
During an investigation it was determined that Monhollen was suicidal and intoxicated. It was also revealed that a felony warrant had recently been issued for the suspect’s arrest.
Police decided the situation had a high potential of becoming a “suicide-by-cop” incident so the Crisis Response Team and Emergency Services Team (EST) were called to assist.
Authorities evacuated several nearby motel units during the attempts to communicate with Monhollen.
The suspect was said to frequently exit the room only to quickly go back inside. It was during one of those times around 1:00 a.m. that the EST was able to take the man into custody without incident.
No one was injured during the two hour event. FWPD reported that no weapons were discovered in Monhollen’s room.
Monhollen was transported to the Allen County Jail on the unrelated warrant discovered that evening.
