FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Michael Plumadore was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for t he murder of Aliahna Lemmon Monday.
He also received 30 years for being a habitual offender, three for abuse of a corpse, and three for altering the scene of death for a total of 36 years on top of his life sentence.
Attorneys for Plumadore and the State of Indiana entered a plea agreement last month for the court's review which was accepted by Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck.
Plumadore pleaded guilty to murder to all charges against him.
"When this came into our office, I had every intention to file the death penalty," said Allen County Prosecuting Attorney Karen Richards.
According to Richards, prosecutors chose instead to fight for life without parole for the sake of Aliahna's family as death penalty cases can last longer and can potentially be thrown out.
Elizabeth Sepponen, the cousin of Aliahna's mother, was the only family member to address the court.
"You have put a rift in Fort Wayne that I hope someday can be healed," she said. "You have tied Alihana to something evil," Sepponen said to Plumadore.
Plumadore also addressed the court. He said that no words could express how sorry he was and that
"No one should be able to commit the crimes I have committed," Plumadore said.
