TAMPA, Florida (WANE) - Thousands have converged on Tampa, Florida for the 2012 Republican National Convention this week. The event has attracted a mix of delegates, members of the media, voters and protestors.
Included in the 86-delegates representing the state of Indiana, State Senator Tom Wyss traveled to the sunshine state as an at-large delegate.
Wyss said organizers made a smart decision in delaying Monday’s line-up of activities as Tropical Storm Isaac moved past the site of the convention. In his opinion, the condensed schedule brings more excitement to a now-concentrated production.
“I think [Tuesday] is just going to be unbelievable because they’re going to have to move everything into the next three days,” said Wyss.
Former NewsChannel 15 reporter, Chris Hopper weighed in on the decision saying under stormy conditions, travel can be hazardous around Tampa Bay. Hopper moved from Fort Wayne in April 2011 to Tampa to work for Bay News 9. He said he has enjoyed the chance to report on and witness a historic event.
“It’s one of the great perks of our job; to get the opportunity to be front and center at an event that you might never get the opportunity to see in your lifetime,” Hopper said.
