I-469 back open after sheet metal spill closed part of road

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a semi spilled sheet metal on I-469, causing several miles of the interstate to be closed. The spill was cleaned up and the road opened around 9:00 a.m.

It happed around 5:30 Wednesday morning in the southbound lanes between the six and nine mile markers. That's between Bluffton and Winchester Roads.

Officials at the scene said the semi was heading south when they believe the driver fell asleep.

The driver lost control of the semi and it hit the median under a bridge.

That caused some of the load to spill onto the road. The semi was carrying 4x4 aluminum sheet metal.

No one was hurt, but it caused a mess in that area of I-469. Some of the sheet metal even went into the northbound lanes.
