FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Parkview Field is starting to tear up the sod on their field to prepare it for new sod that will arrive later in October.
Crews started tearing the old sod out of the field on Tuesday morning. After the sod is removed, crews will ensure that no roots are left behind.
From there, all the irrigation heads will be replaced and the field fumigated. The new sod is scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday, Oct. 16. According to Parkview's schedule, the process of laying down the new sod and completing the infield should be done by the end of October.
The downtown ballpark and the home of the TinCaps is getting new grass in time for next spring.
The field is getting the new sod because the grass at the field right now is more than 50 percent filled with a weed, called called poa annua grass, that turns grass a yellow or light green color.
