Open House for new homes in Renaissance Pointe neighborhood

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Biggs TC Development held an Open House Saturday afternoon off John Street in the Renaissance Pointe neighborhood showing the different floors plans of new homes that are being built in that community.

Atlanta McPherson and her daughter spend time looking around in some of the new places. McPherson has a family of six and hopes to own her own home and keep it in the family.

"Something I can say that I can buy, and pass on to my kids as they get older," McPherson said.

Biggs TC Development is building 66 new lease-to-own homes in the area. Back in March last year, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority approved $10 million in tax credits. That's helping fund this project. The idea behind these homes is to revitalize an old neighborhood.

All the new homes will have three to four bedrooms, new appliances, garages, among other things. These homes are geared toward low-income families who want to have the chance to own their on home. Jessica Baker with Biggs TC Development said as long as you have some type of income and meet their requirements, you can sign up.

"If you have any type of unemployment check, or anything, child support, social security, those are all income that can help you pay for your rent," Baker said.

People can rent the home for 15 years and then will have a chance to buy the home at a discount. The project should be done in August. Buyers must participate in a credit rebuilding and home ownership course as a part of the program.

For more information, you can contact Biggs TC Development at (260) 724-6444.
