FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - One million meals of pork products were added to shelves at several Feeding Indiana’s Hungry food banks Thursday.

Louis Dreyfus Commodities in Claypool, Indiana announced a partnership with Indiana’s Park’s Million Meal campaign to provide the donation.

Louis Dreyfus kicked off the contribution to the effort by donating $2,000 worth of ground pork to Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana and The Food Bank of Northern Indiana in South Bend.

Officials said the initiative is designed to help thousands of Hoosier families with one of their most essential needs – high quality protein.

The goal of the campaign is to provide one million ground pork meals per year, throughout the year, to those in need. The pork meals will be distributed statewide through the eleven food bank members of Feeding Indiana’s Hungry, Inc., Indiana’s statewide network of food banks.

“Louis Dreyfus Commodities in Claypool is working with Indiana Pork because we believe this is a worthwhile project and a great way for all of us in agriculture to work together toward a common goal; feeding hungry people in our state.” said Katie Darr, Louis Dreyfus Commodities.
