STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A young woman from Alabama had to be airlifted to a hospital in Fort Wayne after a traffic accident involving several vehicles in Steuben County Wednesday evening.

Police said April Bobay, 22, of Phenix City, Alabama, failed to yield the right of way as her car came through the intersection of County Road 200 North and County Road 200 West around 5:40 p.m.

As a result, a southbound Chrysler struck the passenger side of Bobay's car. The impact caused the Chrysler to go off the road, striking two other vehicles stopped at a stop sign on Crooked Lake Lane 101 in the process.

The impact also sent Bobay's car off the road and into a large ditch. Bobay was partially pinned inside and had to be freed by emergency responders. She was then airlifted to Parkview Hospital with leg and head injuries.

The driver of one of the cars struck by the Chrysler, Ahmed Awad K. Alrashedi, 29, was cited for operating a vehicle without proof of financial responsibility.

Police said further charges are pending.
