CROMWELL, Ind. (WANE) - Investigators are trying to determine why Kalee Nicole Skaggs, 15, of Cromwell was walking across a railroad crossing early Tuesday morning.  Skaggs was hit by a train and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, emergency crews were called to the CSX rail crossing located at County Road 1000 North just south of County Road 1250 near the Whitley County line at around 2:40 am on a report that a westbound freight train had hit a pedestrian.

An initial report from Mike Wilson, the Kosciusko County Deputy Coroner, indicates Skaggs died from blunt force trauma.

Skaggs was a freshman at Wawasee High School in Syracuse.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and the Kosciusko County Coroner's Office are still investigating the incident.
