FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne's Historic Old Fort hosted an 18th century French reenactment Saturday.
Reenactors from "Les Habitants et Marines du Post ed Miamis" portrayed soldiers, citizens, and Native Americans during the 1750's. The goal of the event was to recreate actual events which occurred in and around what is now Fort Wayne in the year 1753.
Reenactors read letters written by French commanders and then attempted to recreate the events. The actors performed for audiences by doing a mail call, military drills, scouting, cooking, and sewing.
Tom Wojcinski, the event coordinator, said the people who were involved in the reenactment were volunteers.
"We all love history. It's just a passion for us," Wojcinski said.
According to Wojcinski, the first official fort in Fort Wayne was put up by the French in 1709.
The Old Fort did not charge admission for the event, however, people were encouraged to make donations.
