FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - According to the city of Fort Wayne website, primary roads such as State Boulevard, Coldwater Road, and others are cleared first when snow is on the roads.
"It takes many passes to get the road clear," said Frank Suarez, spokesperson for the city of Fort Wayne.
Some of the major roads had to be revisited because of the amount of snowfall in a short period of time. Suarez said there's usually two trucks on one major road to plow and salt areas the first truck may have left or could not get.
" It's passable in that there still might be snow there, you might be able to still see tire tracks, but it's still passable," said Suarez.
NewsChannel 15 went out to some of the primary roads Wednesday evening to see if the roads were clear. Jefferson and Anthony Boulevards were very clear. On State Boulevard, there was still ice and snow on the streets between Anthony Boulevard. and Crescent Avenue.
"What they're finding is that some of the east (and) west routes tended to have more drifting and more of the wet snow for some reason on them than the ones going north and south," said Suarez, explaining why there could still be snow and ice on streets like State Blvd.
According to the city's website, depending on the snow event, it can usually take 10 to 12 hours after the snow stops falling to plow and salt primary and secondary roads.
