FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Islamic Community in Fort Wayne observed the end of Ramadan Sunday with an Eid Celebration.
An estimated 1,500 people were there, making this the largest gathering of Muslims ever in Fort Wayne.
"It's a symbol of a coming together of Muslims all over the world, because wherever Muslims are in the world on this day, they are coming together. So, it is a coming together of Muslims for the praise and the celebration of God," J. Tamir Rasheed, the president of The Islamic Center of Fort Wayne, said.
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims refrain from food, beverages, and carnal desires from dawn until sunset.
Eid is one of two Muslim holidays and is celebrated with prayer, food, gifts and loved ones.
