FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - More than 1,300 cheerleaders competed at the Cheerleaders Great Lakes Championship Company "Get Loud Tour" at the Grand Wayne Center Saturday.

High school, college, and individual gym teams came from all over Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan to compete at the event.

Sheri Wargnier, co-owner and executive director of Great Lakes Championship Company, said the judges at the competition look for stunting skills, tumbling skills, jumps, tosses, and dance skills. Personality is also an aspect the judges look for in each team.

"I think it's great for the cheerleaders' self-esteem and there's a lot of anti-bullying that we put into these events," Wargnier said.

Wargnier said the event has grown by 30 teams from last year.

The winning teams receive a trophy and each girl on the team will receive a medal. There are also spirit awards for the most spirited parents.

Seven teams from the competition will receive bids to go onto the U.S. Finals at the end of the year.
