FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The city of Fort Wayne is illuminating the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Bridge purple on Friday, September 21 in honor of Alzheimer’s Action Day.

Purple is the signature color of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The bridge will remain illuminated until Saturday, September 22. Saturday is the day of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Fort Wayne Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Association is also encouraging Fort Wayne people to "Go Purple" on Friday, September 21 in recognition of the 35 million people worldwide living with dementia.

Visit the Alzheimer’s Association website to learn how you can “Go Purple,” including:

• Sporting your favorite purple outfit.

• Hanging a Walk to End Alzheimer’s poster in your office.

• Turning Facebook purple using an END ALZ graphic as your profile picture.

• Sharing your story about overcoming stigma and get inspired by others doing the same.

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Fort Wayne Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Saturday, September 22, at Headwaters Park. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m.
