FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Mayor Tom Henry presented a proclamation at Medtech College in honor of Medical Assistants Recognition Week on Monday morning.

Erin Frysinger, a graduate of Medtech who is now working in the health care field, also spoke at the ceremony. Frysinger is a single mom from Fort Wayne. Last year she was laid off from her customer service job and decided to begin a new career as a medical assistant.

Frysinger enrolled in Medtech College and worked part-time as a waitress while attending Medtech full-time. And of course, she was taking care of her four-year-old son throughout. Medtech helped Erin land an internship which eventually led to a job at Women's Health Advantage.

Medtech College presented a $2,500 donation to the Imagine America Foundation to help fund scholarships for medical assistant students.

Medical Assistant was ranked in the Top 10 Hottest Jobs for 2012 listings by MSN and TechMediaNetwork.
