LIGONIER, Ind. (WANE) - Hundreds of people attended the 61st annual Marshmallow Festival in Ligonier Saturday.
After members of the planning community were charged with stealing money from the funds, many were worried the festival would be canceled.
But, the planning committee said the controversy actually sparked some interest in the event.
"Everybody in the community has stepped up either by donating or by coming out to participate or volunteering to help, wanting to help in some way. So instead of a negative thing, it's been a positive thing because people have said, how can we help," Margarita White, the vice chair of the festival, said.
The festival includes a car show, eating contests, bake off, rides, live music, and of course plenty of marshmallows.
It will continue Sunday and Monday, ending with the grand parade Monday at 2 p.m.
