FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  The March of Dimes kicked off its annual March for Babies campaign on Wednesday. The initiative helps support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) family support programs, and advocacy efforts for stronger, healthier babies.

The March for Babies event starts with a walk in Auburn on April 13 and ends May 11. Click here for more information about walks in your area.

Lots of local families benefit from the services provided by the March of Dimes. "There's a lot of research that has been done, a lot of technology that has been implemented, and also awareness," said Shahin Modarressi, whose son was born prematurely. "I mean when we first went into this, there was a lot of unknown. We took it one day at a time. Hearing about other success stories, hearing about other people that have been through it, really helps out because you realize you're not alone."
