WARSAW, Ind. (WANE) - Two men were hurt after a meth explosion Saturday evening at Days Inn off of Center Street in Warsaw. One of the men that was hurt tried to help.

Warsaw Police responded to a call of smoke coming from room 218 of Days Inn. When investigators arrived, they realized it was a meth explosion.

"It blew the hinges off the door to the bathroom of that particular room," said Lt. Kip Shuter with Warsaw Police Department.

The explosion also caused the ceiling of room 218 and the room next to it to come off. Before police arrived, they found out someone went inside after the explosion.

"We did have one other subject that went in with an extinguisher to try to put the fire out," said Lt. Shuter.

The man who went inside tells NewsChannel 15 he went in with a fire extinguisher to put out the fire and to see if someone was inside. No one was in the room. He doesn't want to be identified, but said he was treated Saturday for smoke inhalation. He still feels the effects days after.

"I get coughing fits a little bit, kind of get sick to my stomach," he said.

He said he's been in the army for eight years. His training kicked in when he went side that room, he said.

"Knowing now that it was a meth lab, i would have still got him out. I wouldn't have just left somebody in there to die," he said.

According to police, Paul Luna, 36, is still in critical condition as of Monday at Saint Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne. He suffered severe burns to his arms and head.

Warsaw Police said no charges have been filed at this time.
