FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) –Fort Wayne’s own, Amanda Blumenherst was the first golfer to tee off in the Mad Anthonys Charity Classic for Children Sunday.
Starting at noon, Blumenherst, along with 11 other LPGA stars including Nancy Lopez, Angela Stanford, Sarah Jane Smith, Laura Diaz, Belen Mozo, Stacy Lewis, Beatriz Recari, Jessica Korda, Azahara Munoz, Vicki Hurst and Christina Kim kicked off the tournament at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne in pursuit of a $300,000 purse.
Monetary donations collected during the tournament events go towards the Children’s Hope House , an organization that provides temporary housing to families with a critically injured or ill child getting treatment at an area hospital.
2012 is the 55th year for the Mad Anthonys Charity Classic. Last year, the tournament raised $115,000 for Hope House.
