Fort Wayne, Ind. (WANE) - The Allen County Recorder's Office is getting flooded with phone calls about a letter that's trying to take advantage of local homeowners.

It's being sent by a company called "National Deed Service, Inc."

They're charging about $60 for copies of deeds to homeowners' houses.

The Allen County Recorder says you don't really need your own copy.

And if you do want one, you can get one from the Recorder's office for $1 or $2.

"We've pursued this issue with the Indiana Attorney General on several occasions and the problem turns out to be that there are enough disclaimers in this letter to keep it within the law, but it sure is close and is sure does spook a lot of people who don't read it all the way," said John McGauly, Allen County Recorder.

These letters are not new to the area.

NewsChannel 15 told you about similar letters from the same company in 2007.
