FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Many wonder how they can help with Hurricane Irene relief efforts.  One thing many are doing is going to the Red Cross.

Six volunteers from Northeast Indiana have already been deployed to the east coast.  Volunteers have been sent to areas like North Carolina, Baltimore and Maine.

The main goal of the volunteers is to help those that need the basics; food, water, and shelter.  They do this by helping in shelters set up for evacuees, or delivering goods to those who rode out the storm.

Most of the volunteers will stay for 2 to 3 weeks, but help will be needed for much longer than that. Plans have been made to send more volunteers in the future.

If you would like to help with relief efforts, there are several ways.  To find information about blood donations, head to redcrossblood.org .  To donate money you can find information at redcross.org and click the donate funds button at the top of the page.  Or, for a quick $10 donation, you can text "RED CROSS" to 90999.
